– Infrastructure, logistics and energy capacity
Blekinge offers strong conditions for companies looking to establish, grow or relocate their operations. The region has a strategic location close to European markets, international ports, a stable power supply and well-developed digital infrastructure—providing a solid foundation for long-term business development.
Blekinge is located in south-eastern Sweden, in the heart of the Baltic Sea region and close to key European markets. This makes the region a natural link to major population centres in Central and Eastern Europe—and further into Europe.
In Blekinge, distances are short—both geographically and mentally. The region stretches only 100 kilometres from east to west and 40 kilometres from north to south, with five municipalities and close contact with decision-makers, all with a clear focus on supporting business development.
Blekinge is also easy to reach:
Stockholm can be reached in one hour by air from Ronneby Airport
Copenhagen Airport, Scandinavia’s largest aviation hub, can be reached in approximately two and a half hours by train or car
Blekinge has three international ports: Karlshamn, Karlskrona and Sölvesborg. All offer a wide range of services, such as intermodal transport solutions and storage.
Two of the ports are part of the EU’s Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and have several daily departures to Poland, Lithuania and Germany, including new energy-efficient RoPax ferries.
Blekinge has an extensive regional rail network and a well-developed road infrastructure. The E22 motorway runs through the region and is also part of TEN-T. Major improvements are currently underway to increase both capacity and traffic safety.
This contributes to stable and predictable logistics flows for businesses that depend on efficient transport.
Blekinge has a stable electricity grid with no current bottlenecks limiting capacity. The region also has district heating systems and circular use of excess heat from industrial processes.
Conditions for solar energy are favourable, as Blekinge is one of Sweden’s top three regions in terms of daily sunshine hours.
Untapped areas in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Blekinge have attracted interest from several of Europe’s largest offshore wind developers. A number of projects are in different stages of development, with the potential for large volumes of green electricity to be delivered to Blekinge.
Sweden is among the world’s leading countries in broadband performance, and Blekinge continues to show strong digital development. The goal is for 95 percent of residents to have full broadband access in the coming years, creating strong conditions for innovation, growth and digital business development.
Blekinge is Sweden’s sunniest region and offers varied natural surroundings with forests, waterways and an archipelago of more than 1,000 islands—all within close reach. The combination of short commuting distances and a high quality of life makes it easier for companies to attract and retain talent.
