MUNICIPALITIES

Blekinge represents 0,0005 of a percent of the earth’s surface with 0,002 of a percent of the population. It’s by no means a large area we’re talking about – 100 kilometers east to west, 40 kilometers north to south. And that’s at the widest point. But at the same time, it’s one of the biggest, richest, strongest regions in the world. And on that tiny piece of land and water, five towns and cities exist – each and everyone unique in its own way with heaps of history, bright futures and fantastic people.

Karlshamn

Intelligent logistics and food where sea meets land

At the center of Blekinge, in the city of Karlshamn, you’ll find one of the largest and deepest ports in Sweden. The port has always been the aorta of Karlshamn and early on made the city a center for trade in southeast Sweden. The port has also attracted large industries as well as smaller companies in the food and logistics industry. Business life in Karlshamn is built on both tradition and new ways of thinking with companies such as Aarhus Karlshamn, ABU Garcia, Avalon Innovation, Södra Cell and multiple game developers. Netport Science Park is, together with some one hundred member companies and Blekinge Institute of Technology, driving the development within the intelligent transport solutions, energy solutions of tomorrow and digital media.

Karlskrona

The capital of Blekinge

History meets the future in one of the most beautiful cities in all of Sweden – Karlskrona. A city once created for the sole purpose of providing Sweden with ships in an ice-free environment and this naval competence still very much lives on – but now in a hyper modern version. Here, Saab Kockums research and construct advanced submarines for the Swedish navy, here you’ll find Sweden’s center for Internet of Things together with many global IT and Telecoms companies like Ericsson and Telenor. And located here is also Blue Science Park that runs an innovation environment within marine technology, ICT/Telecoms and eHealth. The city of Karlskrona is located on 33 islands eight kilometer out in the sea where you with ferries are able to conveniently get to mainland Europe. Karlskrona is a completely unique city that is also given the status of “World Heritage” by Unesco.

Ronneby

Sweden’s health resort and world class industrial technology

Innovative ways of using water runs like a red thread through Ronneby’s business history. Water rich in iron that was thought to be healthy, laid the foundation to Ronneby Brunn, one of Europe’s most beautiful parks and the heart of the modern health resort attracting visitors from all over the world. The use of water as a tool for precision cutting different materials, is a technique mostly developed in Ronneby and it’s no wonder the city is called “Waterjet Valley” with many innovative water cutting businesses. The airport of Blekinge is located in Ronneby together with many successful manufacturing companies such as Orbit One, Tarkett and Alfa Laval.

Sölvesborg

Entrepreneurial spirit, heavy metal and picturesque fishing villages

Beautifully located on a peninsula in western Blekinge, an hour from both Karlskrona and Malmö, is the medieval town of Sölvesborg. A town filled with driven people living their dream. Warmth, closeness and engagement are all traits of the town and the municipality is all the time actively working for the best for the people living here.

In addition to the fantastic people, a few things are significant to Sölvesborg: Our town center with Danish and medieval influences, “Listerlandet” with sandy beaches and picturesque fishing villages, Europe’s longest pedestrian bridge “Sölvesborgsbron” built in 2013, and internationally famous “Sweden Rock Festival”. Scandinavia’s largest rock festival is every summer welcoming some 35.000 visitors from all over the world and – there to listen to heavy metal super stars such as Alice Cooper, Guns N’ Roses, Kiss and Iron Maiden rocking. In Sölvesborg there is Mjällby AIF, a football team that belongs to the elite of Swedish football and who attracts a few thousand spectators during home games.

In Sölvesborg the sea is playing with the meadows and the cobble stones with white beaches. The pride of Sölvesborg, the island of “Hanö” some way out from the coastline, every year attract 40.000 visitors to a unique nature and experience.

The entrepreneurial spirit is especially strong in Sölvesborg with the town being one of the densest places in Sweden when it comes to number companies per person. Fishing villages are sharing the attention with multiple successful companies such as TitanX, Atria, Stål- och rörmontage and DOT.
