…is how the chairman of the regional board, Christina Mattisson, began the conference: How we increase investments in Blekinge, which was held by Business Blekinge on March 17 at Eriksberg Vilt & Natur. It is important that Blekinge creates good conditions for both existing companies and new investments to strengthen Blekinge’s attractiveness so that more people are able to live and work in our region.
During the day, we listened to local, national and international companies and experts in investment promotion work. Among other things, we received input from both the embassy in China, the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York and Business Sweden. Here you can experience the entire program as well as all the speakers’ presentations.
One of the speakers was Prof Henric Johnson, Global head of Science and Innovation at Business Sweden.
Henric started of by looking at some of Blekinge’s areas of strength where he mainly emphasized the region’s opportunity to become an innovation connector, the one that brings together different countries, industries and areas to create new innovations.
– If the whole of Sweden is 0.13 percent of the world’s population, then we have to realize that we need to work internationally, with shifting regional innovations to the market, which means that Blekinge is in an extremely good position.
The war in Ukraine, imminent NATO membership, climate change, energy shortages and other social challenges also create new opportunities for a region like Blekinge, with its geographical position on the Baltic Sea. But in order to be able to find and develop the innovations of the future, we need to build up a better innovation and R&D capacity. What is happening now with the construction of the Maritime Technology Center in Blekinge, with a focus on safety issues, renewable energy at sea and sustainability is a first step on the way.
– We need to become a regional team, to become stronger and connect with the outside world.
Prof. Global head of Science and Innovation, Business Sweden
Henric highlighted 5 areas as particularly important:
1. To establish innovation partnerships with other countries
2. To identify new areas where Blekinge can take a position
3. To work with early innovation, so-called deep tech or emerging tech
4. To work with engaging the large companies in the Region
5. To build an infrastructure for test beds and demo areas
